So, the woman who wants to be Lieutenant Governor, Rebecca Kleefisch, is out with a TV ad that proclaims we have the best health care in the world, and if it wasn’t for that fact, she wouldn’t be here today to proudly run with Scott Walker.
For those who don’t follow the game closely, Kleefisch is a former Milwaukee TV personality who had a pretty large tumor removed from her innards a few weeks ago, and has apparently made a complete recovery. In the ad, she goes on to condemn what she calls a “government take-over of health care” and infers that Tom Barrett is wrong and bad because he favors this “take-over.”
I don’t even know where to start in picking apart this deceptive ad. Let’s start with Madame Kleefisch’s health insurance. She has coverage through her husband, who is…..wait for it….a state representative from Oconomowoc. So the Kleefisches have state GOVERNMENT insurance coverage. “Oh, but it’s a private insurance company policy”, whines the Mrs., when confronted about the duplicity in her ad.
That’s right, Becky. It’s a private company. But your coverage is paid for, courtesy of a contribution of around twenty grand a year from the taxpayers of the state of Wisconsin. So, you have, no matter how you slice the dice, GOVERNMENT insurance coverage. You have allowed the government to “take over” your health care, Becky. You and Joel are firmly attached to the state teat when it comes to health insurance.
You can make the case that we have the best health-care system in the world; you cannot make the case that we have the best health-care access in the world.
What the Kleefisches of the world don’t seem to understand is that so many people are essentially shut out of that system. Worse yet, they don’t seem to care.
The election is two weeks from today. I can’t wait.
The larger issue is: will the candidate do what she says she's going to do when in office? That's always hard to tell. The "Hope and Change" crowd tried not to get too specific during the '08 campaign; but what they've piled onto the public in less than two years is a bit more than people bargained for.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons that the Dems are going to have a tough time of it come November 2nd is that some pretty high-sounding promises were made back in '08 regarding banking, health care, Wall Street, etc. Those who voted expecting some real change in the White House found that they'd pretty much gotten what Dennis Miller said: "It isn't that the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes; it's that he's wearing the same suit as the last Emperor."
So now everybody that rode into Congress on the coattails of Hope and Change -- the Democrats -- have had a lot of 'splainin' to do. Now the Stupid Party will ride in the the coattails of not being H&C.
Whether it's Kleefisch in Wisconsin or Jack Conway in Kentucky making claims about their opponents that are impossible to support, it's still largely going to come down to guilt by association, in my humble yet deadly accurate opinion...the guilt of the Democrats being associated with the enormous spending and borrowing going on.
"Caring" is out...looking like one is in favor of fiscal responsibility is in.

Of course Rebecca Kleefisch doesn't know what she's talking about. She's another Palinesque Republican fembot whose job is to look hot, spout talking points, and repeat until elected.

ReplyDeleteAh! The old Democrats-are-smarter-than-Republicans trope. You know what? You're probably right. The Republicans haven't figured out yet what Democrats have known all along: that the public expects Congresscritters and politicians in general to do something! The Dems have given us banking reform, health insurance reform, a takeover of GM, a handover of Chrysler to the unions, etc. So all that legislation and executive action is in place. It's a lot harder to repeal that stuff than it is to pass it...but the Stupid Party will keep doing what it's always done, so it's only a temporary inconvenience for the Progressives when the Republicans once again gain power. The Republicans will blow it and the Dems will gain the ascendancy once more. Piece o' cake.
